Other ways you can help the animals in this video according to the Oakland Zoo's Website:
Bald Eagle:
- Use nontoxic pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers & other chemicals; use all other chemicals only in accordance to law.
- Help protect old growth trees, particularly within a mile from water, and other roost/nest sites and important foraging areas.
- If you see an eagle or nest, please let Ventana Wildlife Society know If you see an eagle pair you want to protect, ask VWS to help support you with this noble endeavor.
Wolf:
- As wolves return to their historic range in the United States (including California): Advocate for lowering the risk of human/predator conflict, especially for ranchers.
- Never feed wild animals; walk pets on leash; keep small pets inside; supervise small children outside; secure garbage, compost, & pet foods; stay informed!
- Keep dogs inside unless supervised because hybridization with wolves can impact the overall population and genetics of wild wolves.
Condor:
- Never use lead bullets! Alternative bullets are available that can compete well with lead in accuracy, range, and killing power, and, like lead, they pose little threat of damage to gun barrels.
- Encourage hunters to remove bodies of animals they have killed (whether game or non-game species).
- Pick up trash. Many condors, especially chicks & juveniles, have been found with micro-trash in their bodies.
Jaguar:
- The impact of jaguar predation on domestic livestock depends largely on the availability of natural prey and herd management practices. Therefore, advocate for a change in ranch management throughout the jaguar's range.
- Purchase jaguar friendly coffee which comes from coffee plantations and companies that do not kill jaguars Purchase Shade Grown coffee which keeps rainforests habitat intact and thriving for jaguars and other species.
Grizzly Bear:
- Do not hunt bears and contact your government to express your interest in grizzly bear conservation and decreasing fragmentation between populations.
- Properly store your food and pick up trash when you go into bear territory.
- Never come between a mother and her cubs. Depredation occurs with bears when they are too habituated to humans or if they attack. If we clean up after ourselves and pay attention to our surroundings, we can easily save the lives of bears.
- When in Grizzly habitat, act responsibly: Use bear proof containers, carry
Mountain Lion:
- When working in your garden build a deer-resistant yard. Deer bring mountain lions to developed areas; if deer do not spend time in our yards, this will greatly reduce human/mountain lion conflict.
- Never feed wild animals; walk pets on leash; keep small pets inside; supervise small children outside, especially at twilight.
Black Bear:
- Do not hunt bears and contact your government to express your interest in black bear conservation and decreasing fragmentation between populations.
- If you witness an illegal poaching, call 888-DFG-CALTIP (Californians Turn In Poachers and Polluters), or donate to the CalTIP Foundation for reporter rewards. Learn more from our partners the BEAR League.

"The silliest thing I've heard in a zoo"?... When a guest expressed their concerns over whether or not the zoo still served the carnivores (specifically the felids) meat. The zookeeper handy very patiently explained how the cats were only used to a carnivorous diet, that tofu wouldn't do. This didn't stop the guest from their last question -- "Can't you make the tofu look like meat for them?" God bless the keeper when they moved on from that chat. Their day was busy as it was. - take care, slainte chugat

I’ve been going to that zoo all my life and it has been one of my favorite zoos of all time!! I was an intern zookeeper working with the elephants and education animals and it was great! I had anticipated the California Trail ever since it was built and was even there on the grand opening ceremony!! THANK YOU for visiting our zoo!! Btw you should check out Fresno Chaffee Zoo with their new exhibit Kingdoms of Asia. I’ve got some video footage if you want to use it

I have heard a few things at the Brookfield Zoo that are pretty silly, but none of them compare to this one. A few years ago my brother and I were looking at the macaws, and this lady with her child walked into aviary and the lady pointed and said “look at the pelicans”. My brother and I tried so hard not to laugh, and we officially cracked when the lady left. Brookfield Zoo does have pelicans, but they can only be seen outside in warm weather. The macaws are in an indoor building. I wanted to correct her, but that sentence caught me off so much I did not know what to think.

A guy in a wheelchair was waiting to see polar bears at Brookfield Zoo. Being in a wheelchair the most common thing you see in a zoo is other people's hind ends. So, he waited patiently for people to move on so he could move up and see the bears. A little girl literally vaulted over him into the spot. He said something quietly that rhymes with trucking rich. The father overheard, though, and spun with a raised fist, saw it was the guy in the wheelchair, and realized the optics of the situatuon and quickly descalated. Later on we were in the Living Coast exhibit and the same guy was watching the moon jellies when two children ran over and literally began climbing on him and his wheelchair screaming in his ear "Is that even real???!!!" To which he forcefully replied, "No."

This zoo is what I would consider to be my "home zoo," I grew up going to it and when I go visit my parents I try to make a trip out to the OZ. They have an awesome social media team, they are super transparent and informative. What I love is that all the animals are treated as individuals, so we the public get to know their names and personalities. Some things I'd love to add to your video, just because I'm a huge fan of this zoo - their previous lions were rescued from someone who owned them illegally as cubs, their current lions are brothers from a captive breeding at another AZA zoo. The tigers were likely born at Tiger King's facility and then ended up at a roadside zoo that closed, and were rescued only a few years ago, they are both seniors and one is actually a liger. Every year the zoo breeds their bison herd, and then every year half of the bison are sent to the reservation they partner with to reintroduce them to the area. What's interesting is that instead of only sending the juveniles, since bison are very bonded to their mothers even as adults, they send mother and baby together. Also, the wolves came from a pair that was recommended for breeding by the SSP and were brought together when California Trail opened. They had four cubs in one litter and then no more breeding was allowed. The father has since passed, but the plan was always to create a natural pack by having a family unit. And finally, the jaguars are under a breeding recommendation currently and the zoo is hoping for cubs sometime this year.

The silliest thing I have ever heard at a zoo was at Sea Lion Sound at the St.Louis zoo. I kid was looking at a harbor seal and saying it was a leopard seal I could him it was a harbor seal. He looked and me and then continued to shout that it was a leopard seal. I got so excited when I saw that the next video has a hammerhead shark.

Unfortunately, not. While I did have time to see everything, thanks to some animals on the California Trail not cooperating early in the day, it took a lot of time going up and back and I didn't actually have time to film everything else at the zoo. Regardless, I wouldn't have been too kind with my review.

For silly, it's a combo of things that had a massive earworm to it. When Cincy added all of their "Zoo Keys" thing with electronic key card things that you could plug in to hear a little jingle about whichever animal or thing it was connected to. Unfortunately, if they glitched, each would play the even older Zoo! Zoo! Zoo! theme, and there was this kid who kept screwing with them to lock them into repeating that over and over again where he'd do it so it would lock in and go sit nearby...the maintenance people would show up and fix it, then the kid would set it off again. I don't know what he was doing with it, but if anyone else used it, the normal info jingle would play. But it was kind of funny to see the mess, especially when the maintenance guy figured out what was going on and just started singing along which confused the kid...

I'm so happy you did my home zoo as I grew up in small town of Piedmont which was practically surrounded by Oakland. In fact, this was the last exhibit I ever saw before my parents moved to Reno, NV because the mortgage on my childhood home was getting too expensive.
